Product Of Your Relationships

An African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. This means the people you surround yourself with, can impact your life positively or negatively. So, if you want to achieve anything in life, the people around you play a huge role.

The environment is a great catalyst that influences and nurtures our thought processes. The idles and lifestyle we have as a result of our environmental exposure is not such that allow for closed-mindedness, however. We can always adapt to a new environment that flourishes the idles of any environmental change we want to be identified by. In fact, the type of people we attract depends on our environment, physical or virtual.

As you spend time around people, they rub off on you. That being said, you should hang around people who are motivated and always looking to find new paths. Strive to stay around people with positive energy and happiness, they won’t wear you out. You also want to be around people who are not habitual complainers, who are always looking for solutions to problems in creative ways. There are people with big goals and motivation, they always have a contagious effect on people close to them.

Take a look at the five people that are closest to you. Would you want your children and younger ones to grow up and be like them? If your answer is no, then you need to change friends. But if your answer is yes, your circle is very well and you’re on the path to success.

The people we are surrounded with, have a phenomenal impact on our lives and propel us to success or failure.

Find People Who Are Smarter Than You

You do not have to know everything. Just find people who are more knowledgeable than you if you desire to see a project. This has been the philosophy of Jack Ma, the CEO of Alibaba, who said he’s always surrounded himself with smarter people. Being the smartest person in a company of friends or people limits you because you might be the only individual capable of adding value.

Surrounding yourself with people that are well-read, smarter, wiser and deeper than you helps you to grow. It is possible to surround yourself with smarter people and still fail in life. The point is, you must be ready to listen, learn and adopt the principles of these smart people.

Employers of labor who desire to succeed go for very smart people, how much more individuals. You experience a shift in mindset depending on what you hear and see. So if you’re always around negativity and stupid people, you will never be pushed to change or succeed.

Find Those Who Have Accomplished Your Goals and Develop Relationship With Them

Imagine going through a path you are not familiar with. If you find someone who knows the path and can take you through it, you will spend a shorter time navigating that path. So it is with accomplishing goals. Find people who have reached the goal that you envisage and they’d tell you the secrets and help you accomplish your goals.

In other words, you should adopt mentors who can teach you real-life lessons. A mentor will expose all he did to make it happen for himself and also help you avoid the mistakes he made. That way, you will reach your goal faster.

Avoid Negative People

You are a product of your environment and your beliefs. If you surround yourself with negative people, they will bring you down. Negative people hardly see the good in people, all they do is point out why you will not succeed or why a project is heading for the rocks. You should avoid these kinds of people by all means.

Life is not always rosy. However, imagine having someone who listens to you and cheers you up when you’re done. Find someone who makes you feel good about yourself no matter how bad you may be doing.

Focus on only relationships that add value to your life and people who share positive energies around you.

If You Can’t Play Tennis, Watch the Game

There are alternatives for physical relationships. So many things can be done virtually. If you’re unable to physically adopt a mentor, you should be able to find their resources online. For example, Gary Vaynerchuck has taught a lot of entrepreneurs secrets to success in business. Most of his mentees have succeeded in their projects by simply applying the principles he shares on social media.

Life has been made easier with social media. You can be influenced by what you hear and see online. Therefore, you should choose only content that benefits your cause.
