The highlight of the year 2020 was the covid-19 pandemic which had put the world and its economy at a standstill. Within that year, several theories were propounded as to the treatment of the viral disease. Alas, it defied medication in several climes.
However, there were claims in some parts of Africa that the combination of Ginger, Garlic, mixed with honey, and warm water reduced the severity of the disease. Although the aforementioned combination CANNOT cure covid-19, it brought to light the efficacy of Ginger, Garlic, and Honey in curing other infections that can lead to certain bacterial, microbial, and inflammatory diseases.
Ginger and garlic are found all over the world and they are commonly used as spices. But these spices have several health benefits – and when combined with honey, can be used as medicine to cure problems like common cold and sore throat among other infections. Little wonder, my boss hardly goes a day without sipping a teacup of ginger tea as she calls it and guess what? she’s a super healthy woman, partially because of her religious use of this tea.
Now, let’s take a swipe at the benefits of sipping garlic, ginger, and honey tea,
1. Immune Booster
Asides from fruits and some medications that boost the immune system, Ginger tea or a combination of ginger, garlic, honey, and warm water also serve as immune boosters. Given the anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-microbial properties, ginger tea fight the body against some sort of oxidative stress and also protects it by building up antibodies.
2 Reduces Asthma Symptoms
I have an asthmatic friend who told me about this even before I made the research. She always had an asthmatic attack until she was told to resort to ginger, garlic, and honey tea which helped her respiratory system. Of course, the frequency of attacks she experienced reduced drastically.
Ginger and garlic prevent any sort of inflammation on the airways and given the gingerols and shogoals in them, muscles of the airways are relaxed.
3 Cancer prevention
There are many health benefits that can be derived from taking honey. Honey is good for the skin and it contains flavonoids, an anti-cancer property. According to a study, a combination of ginger and honey can be potentially used to prevent and treat cancer.

There are several infections including bacterial, and viral that can be cured by a mixture of ginger, garlic, and honey. This lays credence to why the combination was heavily patronized and used in Africa during the covid-19 pandemic. Ginger is very well known for its antimicrobial and inflammatory property which makes it potent for curing cold, flu, and some infectious diseases.
6. Curbs Flu and Cold
Ginger is particularly good for reducing the severity of sore throat, one of the symptoms of covid-19, largely because it contains compounds known as gingerols and shogaols. The aforementioned properties work as inflammatory and antimicrobial agents.
7. Can Aid Weight Loss
If you are looking to loose weight, you may want to consider taking garlic and honey because it has anti-obesity property. This helps to reduce the weight of the body and also maintain the hip to waist ratio.

Ginger has served as an anti-hypertensive because it can lower the pressure of the blood, one of the reasons people have heart diseases. And then, the combination of garlic and honey can reduce blood pressure levels.
